Judy Catambay is a California artist working in ceramic sculpture and painting. She studied fine art at San José State University and painting at Sheffield Polytechnic School of Art in England. Originally trained as a painter, she was later drawn to the tactile possibilities of clay, bringing a painter’s sensitivity to color, surface, and gesture into her sculptural work. Guided by intuition, experimentation, and the unexpected possibilities of her materials, she creates figurative and animal-inspired works that explore memory, protection, belonging, and transformation. Her work reflects the fragility and resilience of the natural world and our connection to it.
Alongside her studio practice, Catambay is an arts educator and community artist. She has led collaborative public art projects, including street and community murals, working with participants of all ages to create artwork that reflects shared stories, local identity, and a sense of place. Whether in the classroom, the studio, or the public realm, she sees art as a way to foster creativity, connection, and engagement with the world around us.
